Marilyn Frye’s “Oppression” explores the meaning of the word oppression and how it applies differently to men and women. I found the fact that she mentioned that while both men and women are oppressed, women are oppressed because of their gender while men are not. This reminded me of the “black lives matter” movement vs the “all lives matter” movement because while yes ALL lives matter is a true statement, black people have been oppressed and enslaved for a long time and are only beginning to gain semi equal rights (there is still a long way to go) so their equality is a bit more pressing than white equality. Similarly, women have been oppressed for centuries and are just beginning to equalize but still have a long way to go. Oppression means a completely different thing when being discussed regarding women than it does with men and I believe that is the point that Frye was trying to get across.
